The Festival is well know for its International "Gold Panda" Awards for documentary, and is dedicated to recognizing the best international documentaries on Society, Anthropology and Nature and Environment. The South African Focus is a result of a partnership with Encounters.
"To help the communication and cooperation between Chinese and South African professionals in the TV & film industry and promote cultural exchanges between peoples of both countries, 2009 Sichuan TV Festival joins hands with Encounters South African International Film Festival and presents "South Africa Day"- Exhibition Screening from Encounters," said the Festival organisers.
Sichuan TV Festival visited South Africa earlier and met with Encounters and the Documentary Filmmakers Association (DFA) to explore partnership opportunities.
Encounters and the DFA would like to congratulate the filmmakers whose films have been selected for the exhibition. They are:

"Encounters is also proud to announce that Soul Train by Thabo Bruno Mokoena (opening night film at Encounters from Big Fish School of Digital Filmmaking) has won "Best Photography" in international "Gold Panda" Awards of 2009 at the 10th Sichuan TV Festival," said Mandisa Zitha, Festival Director of Encounters.
As the most professional, influential and international program competition held in China, 2009 International "Gold Panda" Awards have received 3493 entries from 62 countries and regions.
