The NFVF strives for a South African Film and Video Industry that is representative of the nation, is commercially viable and encourages development.

The NFVF Act mandates the Foundation to perform some of the following functions in order to achieve its objectives:

• Conduct research into any field of the film and video industry;

• Liaise with individuals, institutions and other government bodies in order to achieve the objectives of the NFVF;

• Monitor, measure and plan national strategies for the industry;

• Advise government on policy relating to the industry; and

• Coordinate effective relationships between government, the film industry and regulatory bodies.
