Sediba Scriptwriting Training Programme – Matatiele (Eastern Cape)

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) invites aspiring and emerging filmmakers from Matatiele and surrounding areas to apply for the Sediba Scriptwriting Training Programme.
This programme forms part of the NFVF’s in-house Sediba Training Programme, aimed at building foundational scriptwriting skills for film and television.

The programme will provide participants with practical guidance, structured exercises, and mentorship from experienced industry facilitators, focusing on story development, character creation, dialogue, and the fundamentals of script structure.

Programme Overview

Focus Area: Scriptwriting for film and television
Duration: 1 week
Training Dates: 23 – 27 March 2026
Location: Matatiele, Eastern Cape

The training will offer practical script development tools, structured writing exercises, and mentorship from industry facilitators. Key focus areas include story development, character creation, dialogue, and script structure.

Transport and meals will be provided to selected participants to ensure inclusive participation.

Who Should Apply?

This call is open to:

  • Beginners with a strong interest in storytelling for film or television.
  • Emerging filmmakers with limited writing or filmmaking experience seeking to strengthen their skills.
  • Creatives from related fields (theatre, literature, journalism, digital content) looking to transition into scriptwriting.

No prior professional experience is required.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be South African citizens or permanent residents.
  • Be based in or around Matatiele (priority will be given to local applicants).
  • Be 18 years or older.
  • Demonstrate an interest in scriptwriting through one of the following:
    • A short synopsis of a film or TV idea (1–2 paragraphs), or
    • Evidence of previous creative work (short film, play, blog, written work, etc.).

How to Apply

Applicants must submit:

  • A short motivation (maximum 1 page) outlining their interest in scriptwriting and expected outcomes from the programme.
  • A brief synopsis of a film/TV idea or a sample of creative work.
  • A copy of a South African ID.
  • Contact details, including:
    • Cell phone number
    • Valid email address

Applications must include both a cell phone number and an email address to be considered.

Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Selection Process

Limited spaces are available.

Selection will be based on motivation, demonstrated potential, and commitment.

Preference will be given to applicants from Matatiele and the surrounding areas.

Cost

The training is free of charge for all selected participants.

Transport and meals will be provided.
