12th Annual South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs 12) final judging

The South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs), managed under the custodianship of the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), an agency of the Department of Arts and Culture, will conclude the final judging phase for the 12thedition of the awards on Friday 26th January 2018. The SAFTAs judging is divided into two phases, phase one began early December 2017.

Phase 1:

The SAFTAs 12 judges comprising of 262 film and television practioners are grouped into panels based on their skills set. The panels receive content that has been submitted by various production houses in their chosen categories. The entries were verified against the entry guidelines by the SAFTAs 12 auditors, Nexia SAB&T, to ensure that all entries adhere to the criteria. The judges were then given the content to view and make comments that are discussed during the second phase.

Phase 2:

This phase is currently underway and the judges congregate in one venue across Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town and Mafikeng to deliberate and vote on three nominees per category. These final sessions are adjudicated by the auditors to ensure fairness. The full list of nominees will be announced on the 2nd of February 2018 at Inanda Club, Inanda.

“As the chairperson of the SAFTAs committee, I would like to extend my gratitude to the 262 judges who sacrificed their time over the past 9 weeks viewing and judging the entries. Your time and effort is always appreciated. These awards belong to us all and it is imperative that the SAFTAs committee supported by the industry work together to ensure that they grow each year.” said NFVF CEO, Zama Mkosi.

The SAFTAs committee, consisting of CCISFA, SASFED, eTV, M-Net, SABC and StarSat, thanks to all the production houses who submitted their work as entries for the 12th Annual South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs 12). The awards are a platform designed to showcase and celebrate the incredible talent that the South African film and television industry has to offer.
