The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) is an agency mandated by South Africa’s Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture, to provide funding for the development, production, marketing, and distribution of films – including helping filmmakers represent and market their work internationally. In addition, the NFVF commissions research and produces industry statistics that provide both the public and stakeholders with valuable insights into the South African film industry. It also promotes the development of South African film and television audiences, develops talent and skills in the country – with a special emphasis on previously disadvantaged groups.
Spcine is a state-owned company in São Paulo, founded as an initiative of the São Paulo City Hall focused on the development of the film, TV, games, and new media industries. The company was created with the goal of promoting the development of the audiovisual industry in São Paulo. Linked to the São Paulo Secretariat of Culture, it now encompasses the activities of the São Paulo Film commission, which receives all applications for authorizations for film productions shooting in public spaces in the city of São Paulo since its creation in 2016.
Spcine and the NFVF will hold a virtual meet and greet for producers and creatives across four days: 19, 21, 26 and 28th September 2023. The online event is designed to facilitate co-production, collaboration and business development opportunities between Brazilian and South African producers and creatives. This is ahead of the opening of the Brazilian – South Africa co-production call with which the Parties aim to promote the collaboration for projects in development and in pre-production stages. The concepts need to appeal to both territories.
This meet and greet opportunity is exclusively for emerging and experienced Brazilian and South African producers and creatives who have played key roles in the production of at least one feature length film. Ten producers and creatives from each of Brazil and South Africa will be selected to participate in the meet and greet, which will be held on a selected online platform.
