Call for Proposals: YOUTH Filmmaker’s Project

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) is a statutory body created in terms of the National Film and Video Foundation Act No 73 of 1997 (NFVF Act). The NFVF Act mandates the NFVF to develop and promote the South African film and video industry. In pursuance of this mandate the NFVF is introducing a programme to provide opportunities to enable Youth filmmakers to develop, write, direct and produce 10 short films each (“the Film”) over a 3-year period.

Concept

The concept for the Youth Filmmaker’s Project is to appoint a production company to assist the NFVF in carrying out its mandate with respect to providing opportunities to Youth filmmakers to make short films.

The successful production company (“the Company”) will be required to manage, execute and deliver all 10 films over a 3-year period, each of which must be made, as completely as possible, by a team of Youth filmmakers (“the Filmmakers”).

The Company must select the Filmmakers in accordance with a call for submissions, which must be approved by the NFVF prior to being published and must include (not exclusively) the following criteria for submissions:

–       Youth applicants not above the age of 35;

–       Preference will be given to Youths who have not had an opportunity to make a film;

–       Preference will be given to applicants residing outside the main regions of Gauteng and Western Cape;

–       Youth applicants may not both write and direct.

The Company in collaboration with the NFVF will agree on the stories to go into development, which development process will be managed by the Company.

Upon completion of the development of the scripts, the Company and the NFVF will select the best scripts for production.

The Company will then work with the Filmmakers in the production of the films from pre-production to post production until delivery of the films.
