Canada, South Africa reopen co-development incentive for television projects

Toronto and Johannesburg, September 19, 2023 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and South Africa’s National Film & Video Foundation (NFVF), an agency of the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture of the Republic of South Africa, have reopened their joint incentive for the co-development of television projects between Canadian and South African producers.

Now in its seventh year, the Canada-South Africa Co-development Incentive for Television Projects’ total budget is CAD 195,000 (approximately ZAR 2,722,103) with each funder contributing half of the sum.

To qualify, projects must involve producers eligible under criteria from both organizations. Eligible projects are television programs in drama, documentary, and children’s and youth genres. Closing date for applications is October 20, 2023.

Projects submitted for funding will be evaluated by representatives of the CMF and NFVF based on creative value, the track record of the involved producers, target audiences, and project viability.
