NOTICE OF THE RATIFICATION OF THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE FEDERATIVE REPUBLIC OF BRAZIL AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA ON AUDIOVISUAL CO-PRODUCTION

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), an agency of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture is proud to announce that the Audiovisual agreement referred to above which was signed on 13 September 2013 is now in force effective 10 April 2024.

For the administration of the certification process, the designated competent authorities are the NFVF in South Africa and ANCINE in Brazil.

Article 1 of the Agreement defines  “audiovisual work” as a sequence of related images, with or without sound, irrespective of length, which is intended to be made visible as a moving image through the use of devices, regardless of the medium of initial or subsequent fixation, and for which there is an expectation for public exhibition, and includes films and video recordings, animation and documentary productions for exploitation in theatres, on television, DVD or by any other form of distribution.

The NFVF advises producers to lodge their applications for an advance ruling at least 45 days before the first day of principal photography to allow for further requests and interrogation of supporting documentation accompanying the applications. A copy of the agreement is available for downloading on the NFVF website (http://www.nfvf.co.za).
