The National Film and Video Foundation and partners to host the South African pavilion at DISCOP Johannesburg.

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), an agency of the Department of Arts and Culture, in partnership with the Gauteng Film Commission (GFC), Durban Film Office (DFO), KwaZulu Natal Film Commission (KZNFC) and the Film and Publication Board (fbp) will host the South African Pavilion at DISCOP Johannesburg from the 25th – 27th October 2017 at the Sandton Convention Centre.

With over 1000 acquisition, development, production and distribution executives from over 70 countries in attendance, DISCOP Johannesburg has gained prominence as a key market to access Africa content.  This market is therefore important to further the NFVF’s objectives of creating access to South African content and promoting the country as an optimal co-production destination.

The NFVF has awarded 31 filmmakers with an opportunity to attend DISCOP Johannesburg and will utilise the market to launch the South African Movie Database, (SAMDB), a Video on Demand (VOD) site, created to assist with the distribution of the South African film and television content locally and internationally. The NFVF will also host a two part presentation focusing on TV formats in an effort to improve the quality of applications by clearly defining TV formats and the evaluations criteria.

“It is important to expose our filmmakers to markets that are focused on the selling and buying of African content. DISCOP Johannesburg offers great potential for the 31 NFVF funded filmmakers, and others, to meet distributors and sales agents from all over the world. These filmmakers were selected from the NFVF database of projects that are ready for distribution. Our commitment to the industry is not just to assist them access our own funding, but it is also to afford them the opportunity to network and meet other industry players that can take their projects to the next level.” said NFVF CEO Zama Mkosi
