Tribute: Remembering Segomotso Keorapetse (28 May 1968 – 22 October 2025)

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Segomotso Keorapetse, an award- winning South African television director whose work touched countless hearts across the nation. Segomotso passed away on Wednesday, 22 October 2025, and will be laid to rest on Sunday, 2 November 2025.

A true creative force, Segomotso made an indelible mark on the South African film and television landscape. His directing excellence shone through in some of the country’s most beloved productions, including Skeem Saam, Stokvel, Muvhango, Family Bonds, and Ga Re Dumele.

At the 10th Annual South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs), Segomotso was honoured with the Golden Horn Award for Best Achievement in Directing in a TV Comedy for Ga Re Dumele. His skill and storytelling brilliance also earned him nominations at SAFTAs 6 and SAFTAs 8 in the same category. Beyond his achievements, he also gave back to the industry as a jury member for the SAFTAs, helping celebrate and uplift the next generation of filmmakers.

Segomotso will be remembered not only for his artistry and professionalism but also for his warmth, generosity, and mentorship. As a brother, friend, and colleague, his legacy will continue to inspire excellence and creativity within the South African film and television community.
